An advocacy group under the aegis of Coalition for New Nigeria has charged elders and major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party to come together in harmony to improve the party’s chances of electoral victory in the upcoming presidential election.
Speaking at a world press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the group, Prince Stanley Okorie, stated that the time was right to unite all interests in the party and give Nigerians a viable electoral alternative in the coming polls.
‘’The time is right to do what is right and what is right for our party right now is to unite and forge a common ground as we approach the presidential election slated for February.
We cannot afford to allow further divisive tendencies within the ranks of the party and we have chosen it as a responsibility to sound this note of reason as Nigerians earnestly yearn for.’’
“Our group sat down after wide interactions with our teeming supporters across the country to analyse or prospects and challenges. The PDP has a huge chance in winning the trust and mandate of Nigerians in the 2023 presidential election.
Many young Nigerians are willing to trust PDP and Atiku Abubakar, our presidential candidate. The electorates also sent us to tell the elders of the party, including founding fathers like Sule Lamido, Olabode George, Peter Odili, Goodluck Jonathan and a host of others who have put their best in giving the party a legacy to step up in this direction.

‘’ We are taking it with all sense of responsibility to unify every interest within the party as we seek to unify Nigerians and rescue the country under the leadership of Atiku Abubakar. We are hopeful that the voice of reason will prevail before the election and we must put all hands on deck to achieve this,’’ Prince Okorie said.

The group indicated that they would embark on a nationwide tour to visit selected elders of the party during th yuletide season to achieve their objective.

The elders mentioned in the list include Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State and one of the few founding fathers of the PDP; former President Goodluck Jonathan; National chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, former Senate Presidents David Mark, Bukola Saraki and Pius Anyim and Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Speaking in the same vein, Co-convener of the group, Comrade Adams Abonu said the group was determined to achieving harmony within the ranks of the party and also indicated their readiness to enhance the chance of the party.

‘’Across the strata of PDP, the paramount interest is to provide Nigerians with good leadership and no individual’s interest should jeopardise the collective aspiration of members.

We have taken it upon ourselves as custodians of democratic values the party is known for to interact with stakeholders and these selected elders to seek the path of unity and victory,’’ Comrade Abo’nu reinforced.
