The Kwara Progressive Coalition has called for dialogue and reconciliation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State following concerns raised by the Kwara APC Elders Caucus over the party’s governorship primary that produced Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi as its candidate for the 2027 election.

The coalition said the intervention by the elders presents an opportunity for the party to strengthen unity and address grievances that could affect its electoral fortunes if left unresolved.

In a statement, the group noted that the APC Elders Caucus comprises respected party leaders who have played significant roles in building political structures, promoting democratic values and advancing the interests of the party in Kwara State.

According to the coalition, the concerns expressed by the elders reflect sentiments shared by many party members across the state regarding the conduct of the governorship primary and the decision-making process leading to the emergence of the party’s candidate.

The group stressed that the issues raised transcend individual ambitions and political alignments, touching instead on the broader question of internal democracy and inclusiveness within the APC.

It argued that the APC’s growth and dominance in Kwara were built on principles of participation, fairness and consultation, adding that those values must remain central to the party’s operations.

The coalition warned that unresolved concerns among party faithful, grassroots mobilisers and stakeholders could create divisions that may undermine the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The concerns being expressed are not coming from opposition elements but from loyal party members who have contributed immensely to the APC’s successes over the years. Their voices deserve attention and respect,” the statement said.

The group therefore urged the APC National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC) and other party leaders to carefully examine the issues raised by the elders and initiate efforts aimed at fostering unity and confidence among members.

It also appealed to President Bola Tinubu, as leader of the APC, to encourage measures that would strengthen internal democracy and promote reconciliation within the party.

According to the coalition, sustainable political success depends not only on winning elections but also on maintaining legitimacy, trust and a sense of belonging among party members.

The group further urged all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party, stressing that no individual ambition should take precedence over the collective interests of the APC.

It maintained that reconciliation, consultation and inclusiveness remain critical to preserving the party’s strength and ensuring its continued dominance in Kwara State.

The coalition added that the concerns raised by the APC elders should be viewed as an opportunity to reinforce the party’s democratic credentials and position it for greater success in future elections.
