The National Sports Commission (NSC) has dissolved the boards of six National Para Sports Federations with immediate effect as part of efforts to ensure a transparent, credible and seamless electoral process that will usher in new leadership across the federations.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the Director-General of the NSC.

The affected federations are the Amputee Football Federation, Para Athletics Federation, Para Powerlifting Federation, Para Swimming Federation, Para Soccer Federation and Para Volleyball Federation.

According to the Commission, the dissolution is aimed at strengthening governance structures within the federations and ensuring that forthcoming elections are conducted in line with established principles of fairness, accountability and transparency.

The outgoing boards were inaugurated on 20 July 2022 and have since been responsible for providing leadership, direction and administrative oversight for the development of para sports in Nigeria.

While announcing the dissolution, the NSC commended the presidents, vice-presidents, board members and other stakeholders of the federations for their service and contributions during their tenure.

“The Commission expresses its profound appreciation to the Presidents, Vice Presidents, Board Members and stakeholders for their dedication, service and contributions during their tenure,” the statement said.

The NSC directed all outgoing board members to immediately hand over federation properties, records, documents and official responsibilities to their respective Secretaries-General, who will oversee the day-to-day administration of the federations pending the conduct of elections and the inauguration of new boards.

The Commission also assured athletes, coaches, technical officials, sponsors, partners and the wider sporting public that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure uninterrupted operations during the transition period.

It added that details regarding the modalities, timelines and procedures for the elections would be communicated through its official channels in due course.

The NSC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance, institutional excellence and sustainable development across Nigerian sports while creating an enabling environment for athletes and sports administrators to excel.
