Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Thursday went round major streets in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, to monitor compliance with his directive that all street lights are working optimally, in what the residents have termed “Operation Light Up the Capital City”.

This was contained in a statement released yesterday by Yinka Oyebode, Special Adviser, Media to the governor.

The governor who took off from the Obafemi Awolowo Civic and Convention Centre, shortly after the Christmas carol service around 9.20pm, inspected street light projects along Bank Road, New Ado-Iyin Road, Fajuyi –Basiri- Old Iyin Road, Adebayo Area, Okesa, Oke Eyinmi, Old garage, Ijigbo Junction, Awedele, and Falegan streets among others.

Governor Oyebanji who was accompanied by the Special Adviser on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof Mobolaji Aluko; Head of Service, Mr Bamidele Agbede and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr Olumide, said he was satisfied that all street lights in major streets are now working.

He assured jubilant residents who trooped out when he was sighted at Basiri and Ejigbo streets that the street lights will always be on for 10 hours every day, adding that the idea is to enhance safety and security of lives and property as well as promote social and commercial activities in the state.

“So many people will be coming home for the Christmas and new year celebrations. Aside making the roads quite motorable, we also want to ensure the environment is safe both for social and commercial activities.

“We shall continue to invest in infrastructure development of the state, in our effort to make Ekiti State the number one destination of choice for business, leisure and investment.
