Kano State Government has inaugurated 12 subcommittees to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and boost citizens’ participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The Chairman of the state Taskforce on Voter Registration Mobilisation and Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, inaugurated the committees on behalf of the state government.
Waiya said the move was aimed at consolidating Kano’s position as the leading state in the country’s CVR exercise while expanding awareness among residents ahead of future elections.
The committees, drawn from government, traditional institutions, religious bodies, civil society organisations, labour unions, the media and other stakeholders, are expected to drive voter education and mobilisation across the state.
The Local Government Engagement Subcommittee is headed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Othman, while the Data Analysis and ICT Committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr Aliyu Isa.
Others include the Women Mobilisation Subcommittee led by Hajiya Amina Abdullahi and the Publicity Committee headed by the Managing Director of Radio Kano, Abubakar Adamu.
The Traditional Institutions Engagement Committee is chaired by the District Head of Rimin Gado, Dan Malikin Kano, Comrade Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, while religious outreach is coordinated by the Secretary of the Council of Ulama, Malam Ibrahim Abubakar.
The Business Community, Transport Associations, Students, Civil Society Organisations, Political Parties, Persons with Special Needs, Fulbe Affairs and Organised Labour committees are headed by Alhaji Tijjani Abdullahi, Hon. Mohammed Danyaro Yakasai, Alhaji Yusuf Jibrin Oyoyo, Comrade Mustapha Mohammad Ciroma, Rukkayya Umar G/Kaya and Comrade Abbas Ibrahim respectively.

Speaking at the inauguration, Waiya said the committees were carefully selected based on competence and areas of expertise to ensure effective mobilisation.

He added that the taskforce’s mandate goes beyond registration to ensuring that eligible voters collect their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in elections.

“Our assignment is not limited to registering eligible voters. We are equally committed to ensuring that registered voters collect their PVCs and participate actively in the democratic process,” Waiya said.

He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for providing support towards the success of the mobilisation campaign.
