Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, best known as ‘Ayra Starr’, has opened up about how different her life could have been without music.
The award-winning singer said she sometimes thinks about where she would be if her music career had not taken off. She admitted she would likely be unemployed and still relying heavily on her family.
Speaking during an interview with EE72, Ayra Starr shared her honest view of what her life might have looked like outside the spotlight.
She said:
“If I were not doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I do not even think I would be a content creator. That would be a lot of work. I would just be vibing in my mother’s house, eating my mother’s food.”
Ayra Starr went further to reflect on a key moment in her career.
The singer said she was thrilled when she learnt that Don Jazzy had been following her music before she joined Mavin Records.
At the time, she was still an up-and-coming artist trying to grow her audience online.
According to her:
“I was so excited when I found out they were listening to my music. You know who it is.”
Years earlier, Don Jazzy revealed how he discovered Ayra Starr. He said her unique style stood out immediately and convinced him to contact her.
According to Don Jazzy, Ayra Starr did not reply to his first message. He then reached out to her brother after seeing him in one of her social media posts. The move eventually led to her signing with Mavin Records in 2020.
Ayra Starr also spoke about the downside of fame. She admitted that she sometimes wishes people knew less about her. The singer said she has a habit of sharing too much about her life.
She confessed:
“I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I cannot stop talking. And I feel like I over-share.”
