Could 2027 finally be BTS’ grammy year?
The answer may well be yes after the Recording Academy unveiled a new. Best Asian Pop Music Performance, category, giving the global K-pop sensation its clearest path yet to winning its first Grammy Award.
The new category, which debuts at the 2027 Grammys, will honour outstanding performances in Asian pop music by artists from Asia or those recognised in Asian music markets, making BTS an early favourite.
For years, ARMY has watched the group earn multiple Grammy nominations without taking home the coveted trophy. With this new category, fans believe that could finally change.
There is one catch, however. To qualify, songs must make “meaningful use” of at least one Asian language. That means BTS’ English-language hit “Swim” is unlikely to be eligible despite its commercial success.
Instead, industry insiders expect HYBE to submit a Korean-language track from the group’s latest album, with “Body to Body” already emerging as a strong contender.
The Recording Academy said eligible entries should showcase the signature characteristics of Asian pop, including genre-blending production, dynamic song structures and strong live performance appeal, qualities BTS has become known for throughout its career. The group is also expected to compete in mainstream Grammy categories, although the competition there remains fierce.
Music critics say the addition of the Asian Pop category significantly improves BTS’ chances of finally securing the Grammy that has long eluded them. For millions of ARMY around the world, the possibility is enough to spark fresh excitement. After years of breaking records, selling out stadiums and reshaping global pop culture, BTS may finally be closer than ever to adding music’s biggest prize to its long list of achievements.
