Oba Of Benin Summons Priestesses,Traditionalists Over Rising Insecurity In Edo

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II,l has convened an emergency meeting of  priestesses and traditional doctors across the Benin Kingdom as part of efforts to address the prevailing security challenges in Edo State and Nigeria at large.

According to a Palace Public Announcement dated June 19, 2026, the monarch said the meeting was aimed at exploring “all traditional and strategic means to complement the initiatives of the Government towards the restoration of peace, order, and security in our domain.”

The announcement, signed by Chief Asiriuwa Victor Nosakhare (Obarisiuwa N’weguae) on behalf of the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council (BTC), noted that the decision followed a careful assessment of the security situation within the state and across Nigeria.

“Having taken due cognizance of the prevailing security situation within Edo State and the Nation at large, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, has deemed it necessary and expedient to further explore all traditional and strategic means to complement the initiatives of Government towards the restoration of peace, order, and security in our domain,” the statement read.

“Consequently, the Benin Traditional Council announced an emergency gathering of all Igiohen N’ Ikpia and Igiohen N’ Ikhuo, the traditional doctors within the Benin Kingdom,” the statement added.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Ugha Ozolua, Oba Palace, Benin City.

The palace directed all invited traditionalits to attend the meeting personally, stressing that attendance is compulsory.

“All Igiohen N’ Ikpia and Igiohen N’ Ikhuo are hereby directed to attend in person. This notice should be treated with the utmost urgency and compliance is mandatory,” the announcement stated.
