The Netherlands produced a devastating attacking display to overwhelm Sweden 5-1 in their Group F clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, taking a significant step towards the knockout stages.

Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo starred with two goals apiece as the Dutch dominated from start to finish, while substitute Crysencio Summerville added a late fifth to cap a commanding victory.

The Oranje made a flying start and broke the deadlock after just five minutes. Gakpo turned provider, slipping a precise pass to Brobbey, who finished confidently to put the Netherlands ahead.

The Swedish defence struggled to cope with the Dutch intensity and they were punished again in the 17th minute. Denzel Dumfries surged forward and delivered for Brobbey, who grabbed his second goal of the evening to double his side’s advantage.

Sweden failed to mount a meaningful response before the interval and went into the break trailing 2-0 after being outplayed across the pitch.

The Netherlands effectively killed off the contest within two minutes of the restart. Dumfries registered his second assist of the match when he set up Gakpo, who calmly slotted home to make it 3-0 in the 47th minute.

Things went from bad to worse for Sweden seven minutes later. Summerville provided the assist as Gakpo struck again, completing his brace and extending the Dutch lead to four goals.

Sweden briefly reduced the deficit in the 59th minute when Alexander Isak picked out Anthony Elanga, who finished neatly to make it 4-1 and give his side a glimmer of hope.

However, the Dutch remained firmly in control and comfortably managed the remainder of the contest. Sweden’s frustration showed as Yasin Ayari and Lucas Bergvall were both booked during the second half.

The Netherlands had the final say just before full-time. Memphis Depay found Summerville in space and the winger rounded off an excellent team performance by scoring the fifth goal in the 89th minute.

The emphatic victory strengthens the Netherlands’ position in Group F and underlines their credentials as genuine contenders in the tournament, while Sweden face an uphill task to keep their World Cup hopes alive after a heavy defeat.
