The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo Morris, to Plateau State following the recent attack on Kawel community in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area.

The deployment is part of efforts to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation and to implement measures to restore peace and prevent further attacks.

Disu also approved the deployment of additional police personnel and operational assets, including the Police Mobile Force and tactical teams, to strengthen the security presence in the affected area.

During a visit to Bokkos on Tuesday, the AIG, accompanied by members of the Plateau State Police Command Management Team, met with the local government leadership, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders.

Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, commended the Inspector-General for the prompt intervention and described the attack as a tragic and unprovoked act of criminality.

He disclosed that victims of the incident had been buried and appealed for sustained deployment of security personnel and operational assets to complement ongoing efforts to secure lives and property.

Also speaking, the President of Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State chapter, Mrs Hajara Yunana, expressed concern over the impact of the attack on women and families in the area.

She urged the police to ensure that assurances given translate into concrete action and called for the deployment of modern policing technology to improve security in vulnerable communities.

Yunana also appealed to residents, particularly women, to remain calm and continue providing credible information to security agencies.

Addressing stakeholders, AIG Morris conveyed the Inspector-General’s condolences to the Plateau State Government and the people of Bokkos, especially the residents of Kawel community.

A statement signed by SP Alfred Alabo, the spokesman of the Plateau Police command, reads that he condemned the attack as cruel and assured that security agencies would intensify efforts to arrest those responsible and ensure they face justice.

According to him, the deployment of additional personnel and tactical assets is aimed at restoring confidence, protecting vulnerable communities and preventing any recurrence.

The AIG further urged community leaders, youth groups and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information to support ongoing security operations.

He assured residents that the situation had been brought under control and encouraged them to go about their lawful activities without fear, while remaining security-conscious.
