A House of Representatives aspirant under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Jos-North/Bassa constituency, Hon. David Dama, has stated that no credible primary election was conducted, alleging that decisions were taken by a few party leaders in “backroom arrangements” contrary to the provisions of the party constitution and the Electoral Act.

He hinted that the development has led to the collapse of internal democracy within the party in Plateau State.

Dama made the allegation during a press conference in Jos, where he faulted the process leading to the emergence of the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.

He said the party had deviated from its founding principles of transparency and fairness, accusing its leadership in the state of imposing candidates through what he described as a “flawed and undemocratic process.”

He described the situation as a “caricature of internal democracy,” warning that such practices could undermine the party’s credibility and electoral prospects.

Dama further alleged that the development had created division between the party leadership and grassroots members, insisting that genuine aspirants and supporters were being sidelined.

He called for a review of the selection process, urging the party’s national leadership to intervene and restore internal democratic practices.

The aspirant, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, saying consultations were ongoing with stakeholders on the next line of action.

He reaffirmed commitment to the party’s ideals, while insisting that only a transparent and credible process could guarantee public trust and electoral success.
