League of Alfas and the Concerned Muslim Stakeholders in Osun State at the weekend expressed their worry over rising spate of political violence and incessant killings in the state ahead the August 15 governorship election.
The Islamic scholars and stakeholders at a press conference addressed in Osogbo by the forum president, Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman, Mudhirul Morqas Assaqofy Iwo called on political actors in the state to give peace a chance adding that they should not turn the state into a theater of war because of individual ambitions.
Quoting from the holy Quran, “Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:32):”, the sheikh contended that peaceful coexistence is not just a social necessity, but a divine mandate submitting that life is sacred, and its protection is a fundamental pillar of their faith.
He disclosed that following the critical examination of the leading contenders for the governorship seat of Osun, the group decided to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji being a Muslim from one of the leading parties in the contest.
“Allah does not support hypocrisy. If you want to be a Muslim, be a Muslim; if you want to be a Christian, be a Christian. Do not use our faith as a costume to gain power and then turn your back on us.”
They called on Muslims in the state to vote for their preferred candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji whose identity is clear from a party they described as strong.
