A United States lawmaker, Rep. Nancy Mace, has announced plans to introduce a legislation that would prohibit immigration from Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan, citing security concerns and instability in the three African nations.

Mace, a Republican representing South Carolina, unveiled the proposal in a statement released on June 25 and published on her official website. She described the countries as “Third World hellholes” and argued that restricting immigration from them was necessary to protect American communities.

According to the statement, the proposed bill was intended to shield the United States from what the congresswoman characterised as security threats associated with the three countries.

“Today (June 25), Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) announced her plans to introduce legislation to ban immigration from Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan, protecting American communities from the instability and security threats these nations bring,” the statement read.

Explaining the rationale behind the proposed legislation, Mace said the safety of American citizens should take precedence over the interests of foreign nationals.

“We will not put the interests of foreign nationals ahead of the safety and security of American citizens.

“No more importing instability. No more ignoring the warning signs. No more apologising for putting our country first. America First. Always,” she said.

The lawmaker argued that Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan rank among the world’s most unstable countries and warned that the United States should avoid what she described as the immigration policy failures experienced by some European nations.

“Americans have watched European cities descend into chaos. Importing people from failed and hostile states has cost lives, destroyed communities and shattered public trust in government. The United States will not make those mistakes. We are stopping it before it’s too late,” Mace stated.

She further alleged that migrants from the three countries posed broader security and integration challenges.

“We are being systematically invaded and everyone is sitting around watching it happen. Not us. We refuse,” she added.

Mace’s proposal aligns with the hardline immigration agenda of President Donald Trump, whose administration has pursued stricter border enforcement and expanded immigration restrictions. During his first term, Trump introduced a travel ban affecting several predominantly Muslim countries, including Somalia and Sudan, and has continued to advocate tighter immigration controls during his current administration.

The proposed legislation was yet to be formally introduced in the US Congress.
