A grassroots mobiliser of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bayelsa State, Sunday EbitareĀ  Thompson, has resigned from the party barely one month after defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The resignation was contained in a letter dated June 27, 2026, and addressed to the NDC Chairman of Ward 13, Shagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.Ā

Thompson had on May 17, 2026, dumped the APC and joined the NDC alongside his supporters, a move that was considered a boost to the party’s grassroots structure in the area.

However, less than six weeks after his defection, the political mobiliser has again parted ways with the party.

Although Thompson did not state the reason for his resignation in the letter, the development may not be unconnected with the internal crisis that emanated from the party’s primary elections and the disagreements that followed among stakeholders.

His resignation also comes at a time when the NDC is facing a serious legal challenge following a court judgment ordering the party’s deregistration, a development that has continued to generate reactions among members and supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The officials of the NDC in Ward 13 and Shagbama Local Government Area are yet to publicly react to his resignation.
