Media aides to Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, have donated relief materials to victims of an attack in Kwel community, Mushere District, in Bokkos local government area of the state.
The media aides, consisting of principal, senior and special assistants on media to the governor, donated the items yesterday in Bokkos.
LEADERSHIP reports that on 21 June, gunmen attacked the community and killed 20 people.
The director of Press and Public Affairs to the governor, Dr Gyang Bere, who led the delegation, commiserated with the community over the incident.
According to him, the visit aimed to identify the unfortunate incident and show empathy.
Bere, who expressed the government’s deep concern over the spate of insecurity in the state, said measures had been put in place to tackle all forms of security challenges.
He advised residents of the community to be law-abiding and support the security agencies in their bids to provide adequate security.
“We will not bring back those who were killed, but our coming is to identify with members of this community in this difficult time.
“The items we donated cannot be equal to the losses recorded, but it is our way of showing solidarity and empathy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Samuel Domshak, the Youth Leader of the community, responded by thanking the media aides for the gesture.
He particularly said that the visit had given residents of the community hope that the state government would soon tackle the security challenges.
Domshak, however, called on the Federal Government to deploy more security personnel to the community for the safety of lives and property.
Items donated included bags of garri, rice, maize, salt and cartons of seasoning.
Other items include washing and bathing soaps, detergent, Pampers, gallons of palm oil, and diapers, among others.
