The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Tanimu Turaki has dismissed as false reports alleging that some of its candidates for the 2027 general elections are planning to institute legal action against the faction’s interim leadership.

The Turaki-led PDP faction described the reports as “the product of mischief,” insisting that none of its candidates had lodged any complaint or threatened legal action against its interim leadership.

It urged the public, particularly media organisations and journalists, to disregard the rumours and rely only on information communicated through the faction’s official channels.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the faction’s Interim National Working Committee (NWC) and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

According to the statement, there has not been a single complaint from any of the faction’s candidates, contrary to the reports making the rounds.

“There has not been a single complaint, let alone any threat of legal action, by any of our candidates. On the contrary, all the party’s candidates have remained in constant communication with the leadership and are regularly briefed on ongoing developments,” the statement read.

The faction further alleged that those behind the reports were attempting to create confusion and mislead the public.

“We therefore urge the public, particularly media organisations and journalists, to disregard these false reports and rely only on information communicated through the official channels of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“Such rumours are being propagated by ill-wishers and PDP pretenders, who are APC apologists, in a desperate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion,” it added.

Recall that there was a rumour going around that aspirants for elective positions in the 2027 general elections who bought nomination forms from the faction to contest were allegedly not granted access codes by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload their details to the candidate nomination portal.

The candidates were rumoured to be threatening fire and brimstone over the issue and were therefore planning a showdown with the leadership of the faction.

Meanwhile, the Turaki-led PDP faction also disclosed that the suit instituted by its Board of Trustees (BoT), seeking an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Interim National Working Committee constituted by its National Executive Committee (NEC), came up for hearing on Tuesday.

According to the statement, after counsel to all the parties adopted their respective processes, the court adjourned the matter for judgment on a date to be communicated later.

The faction said it remains confident in the judicial process and will await the court’s judgment on the matter.
