Group Knocks Ex-Senator Over Attack On Governor Kefas

The Agbu Kefas Continuity Movement, a support group for Governor Agbu Kefas political ambition has criticised recent comments credited to former Senator Abubakar Tutare, as self-serving.

In a statement signed by the coordinator of the group, Mallam Ibrahim Ardo, it said Tutare’s recent video exposed his outdated approach to governance centred on rewarding political associates rather than delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

According to the movement, Tutare, who served as a member of the Taraba State House of Assembly, commissioner, secretary to the state government (SSG) and senator, should be judged by his record in public office.

The group argued that, despite occupying several strategic positions over the years, the former senator had failed to demonstrate a legacy of transformative leadership.

It also faulted Tutare for criticising the current administration without acknowledging the ongoing achievements in education, infrastructure, payment of retirees’ gratuities and other development initiatives.

The movement further alleged that, the former lawmaker’s comments reflected a belief that public office should primarily benefit political allies, and warned against any return to what it described as patronage politics.

It maintained that, Taraba had moved beyond an era where public resources were controlled by a privileged few, insisting that the state’s development should remain people-centred.

On security, the group said the situation had improved under the Kefas administration, as communities previously affected by insecurity had witnessed relative peace.

It challenged Tutare to present a practical governance agenda capable of surpassing the policies and programmes of the present administration rather than relying on criticism.

The movement, reaffirmed its support for Governor Kefas, saying the next governorship contest should be based on performance, development plans and leadership capacity, rather than “bitterness and grievance-based politics.”

It would be recalled that, in a recent video clip, Tutare had criticised the Taraba State Government, that has generated political reactions ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
