The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected bandit logistics supplier and recovered 109 rounds of live ammunition, suspected military uniforms and other items in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence provided by members of the Rimawa community.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Bichi Police Division acted on information on Saturday after receiving a report about a man allegedly dressed in a suspected military uniform at Rimaye village in Bichi LGA.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended by police operatives with the assistance of members of the community.

Items recovered from the suspect included an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a National Identity Card, a NIN slip, a voter’s card, four ATM cards and a pair of desert boots.

Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he was in the area to deliver the recovered items to bandits operating in the bush.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents of the Rimawa community for their vigilance and prompt dissemination of information, describing the arrest as evidence of the effectiveness of community policing.

“This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility,” the commissioner said.

The Command added that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations, reaffirming its commitment to intelligence-led and community-based policing across the state’s 44 local government areas.
