The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has condemned the alleged demand by  Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello for a refund of campaign funds she reportedly spent ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in the state.

The allegation, according to the student body emerged in the aftermath of the APC primary election in which Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, secured the party’s governorship ticket for the 2027 election.

Reacting to the development, NAOSS, in a statement issued yesterday by its national president, Olubodun Olalekan, described the reported demand as “unprincipled, embarrassing and a direct insult to the sensibilities of Ogun people” who desire issue-based politics and responsible leadership.

The association said it was disturbed that a non-serving senator and daughter of a former president of Nigeria could be associated with what it described as a “transactional approach to politics rather than efforts aimed at fostering unity and development within the APC in Ogun State.”

“Politics is not a business venture where one keeps receipts to demand refunds after a contest.

“If the allegation is true, then it portrays a troubling desperation and a commodification of public service that must be rejected by all well-meaning sons and daughters of Ogun State,” the statement read.

NAOSS noted that Senator Adeola emerged as the APC governorship candidate through the party’s established process, with the backing of party stakeholders and members.

According to the student body, dragging the party’s flag-bearer into a post-primary financial dispute could unnecessarily heighten political tension and distract from issues that directly affect the people.
