Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), of โ€œoppression, character assassination, intimidation and the deliberate dissipation of my lawfully acquired personal property.โ€

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd said her reputation has been โ€œunfairly questionedโ€ and her investments hit with setbacks due to โ€œmisleading informationโ€ from the anti-graft agency.

She also alleged that her life, her children and her investments are in danger over what she described as โ€œpersecutionโ€ by the state.

On July 16, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo granted final forfeiture of properties linked to Achimugu to the federal government. The properties include jewellery worth N4.645 billion, 11 exotic cars worth N4.293 billion, $50,000 and N30 million in cash.

In March, a Federal High Court in Abuja also granted an order of final forfeiture of $13 million linked to Achimugu and Oceangate. The EFCC had filed a suit challenging the ownership of the funds, which it said were proceeds of unlawful activities.

Achimugu first made headlines in January 2024 after hosting a seven-day 50th birthday party in Grenada attended by prominent figures from Nigeriaโ€™s entertainment and business circles. Over a year later, the EFCC declared her wanted over alleged money laundering. On April 29, 2025, she was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Achimugu said the โ€œmalicious natureโ€ of EFCCโ€™s actions was confirmed when the agency declared her wanted despite knowing her whereabouts and exchanging letters with her.

She alleged that immediately after, 30 EFCC operatives โ€œinvaded my home, terrorized my family, embarrassed my environment and carted away all my jewelleries, safes, and personal funds.โ€ She added that her mother, who recently returned from spine surgery abroad, was made to sit for hours and โ€œemotionally humiliated with no consideration for her age or health.โ€

On the $13 million forfeiture, Achimugu said the money was meant for the payment of oil blocks to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC. She claimed payment tellers already submitted to NUPRC show $2 million paid through a South African bank for PPL 3007 and $5 million for PPL 302.

She said the EFCC also obtained an ex-parte forfeiture order on the $13 million, โ€œwithout any established case or existing petition.โ€ That order, she said, has been challenged on appeal.

Achimugu further alleged that on January 20, 2026, EFCC operatives invaded her home a second time and removed all vehicles on the premises, โ€œwithout regard to ownership, damage, or safety.โ€ She said she approached the court for the return of her vehicles and other seized items, but the EFCC instead obtained another ex-parte order of forfeiture from the FCT High Court.

The businesswoman said she has lost multiple financial opportunities due to the โ€œcontinuous and calculated smearingโ€ of her name. She also alleged that the EFCC directed that her US visa be revoked, and that this affected her plans to attend a Harvard executive program on her Grenadian passport.

โ€œI have never been known to be a troublemaker. I am not a criminal and I have never been convicted of any offence,โ€ she stated.
