APM Says Makinde Can Defeat Tinubu In 2027, faults Presidency’s criticism

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has dismissed criticism of its 2027 presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, insisting that the governor has the support to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party said recent remarks by the Presidency against Makinde reflected what it described as growing anxiety over the governor’s popularity ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.

The party alleged that the Presidency’s decision to respond to Makinde through public attacks rather than engage on policy issues showed that it was apprehensive about the forthcoming election.

According to the APM, criticism directed at Makinde by presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala amounted to an attempt to downplay the governor’s political relevance.

The party maintained that the 2027 presidential election would be a contest between Makinde and President Tinubu, arguing that Nigerians were seeking a change in leadership.

APM further claimed that the Tinubu administration lacked sufficient achievements to campaign on and alleged that many Nigerians were dissatisfied with the government’s performance.

It also cited Makinde’s record as governor of Oyo State, saying his administration had improved the state’s economy and positioned it among the country’s leading economies, adding that the governor’s performance had strengthened calls for him to seek the presidency.

The party expressed confidence that Makinde’s economic and governance agenda would resonate with voters, particularly young Nigerians, whom it said were looking for improved economic opportunities and better governance.

The APM also claimed that millions of young Nigerians had thrown their support behind the Oyo State governor ahead of the 2027 election.

While rejecting what it described as attacks from the Presidency, the party said it would remain focused on issues affecting Nigerians rather than engage in personal exchanges.

It urged government spokespersons to address public concerns through policy debates instead of personal criticism, insisting that the 2027 election should be decided on performance and ideas.
