Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the club to part ways with Enzo Fernández, claiming the Argentine’s recent behavior proves he is no longer committed to the Stamford Bridge project.

Petit pointed to Fernández’s ongoing links with Real Madrid, his apparent unhappiness with the team’s direction, and a series of controversial public statements as clear indicators that his mind is already elsewhere.
Chelsea have remained firm on their valuation, reportedly expecting a fee in the region of £120 million if the midfielder attempts to force a move. But Petit argued that retaining a disgruntled player—particularly one with prior disciplinary issues, including an internal suspension—would only harm both parties.
“I would be shocked if Enzo Fernandez stays because obviously he doesn’t want to stay in England,” Petit told Mr Gamble. “You can see how he behaved during the World Cup.”
The former France international suggested Fernández has been deliberately sending messages to the Chelsea board in recent months.
“I think he tried everything he could in the last few months to send strong messages to the Chelsea board saying, ‘Listen, you see that I don’t want to stay.’ So I think for the best interest of both parties, they should just separate ways. Simple as that. It’s time to get rid of him.”
Petit contrasted Fernández’s attitude with that of teammate Marc Cucurella, whom he praised for genuinely caring about the club. The comments come after Chelsea were forced to delete a social media post celebrating Fernández’s equaliser against England following fierce backlash—an incident that may have further strained relations between player and club.
With Real Madrid lurking and Fernández’s commitment increasingly in question, Petit believes a summer exit is not just likely, but necessary.
“I think Fernandez doesn’t care about Chelsea. Cucurella did care a lot.”
