Maresca Dismisses City’s 115-Charge ‘Noise’

In his first official press conference as Manchester City’s new manager, Enzo Maresca brushed aside mounting scrutiny over the club’s 115 outstanding Premier League charges, declaring he has “no personal concerns” and pointing to the three-year stalemate as proof of the case’s inertia.

Taking over from Pep Guardiola this summer, the former City assistant faced a barrage of questions about the long-running financial impropriety probe, which alleges rule breaches spanning from 2009 to 2018—a period that includes at least two seasons under Guardiola’s tenure.
Maresca, calm and matter-of-fact, deflected the speculation with a pointed timeline: “The only thing I can say is three years ago, the Treble season, I was here and it was the same words about this. In three years, it’s still the same. Nothing has happened.”
When pressed on whether the unresolved case could distract his squad or tarnish the club’s achievements, the Italian tactician remained unequivocal: “I don’t have any concerns personally. My focus is entirely on the pitch—on training, tactics, and the new season ahead.”
City await a verdict from an independent commission, but Maresca’s tone suggested he views the legal saga as background noise. His remarks echo the club’s consistent stance of denial since the charges were first referred in February 2023.
With the Premier League title defense looming, Maresca instead pivoted to squad fitness and summer transfer plans, signaling that his tenure will be defined by results, not legal battles.
