Jigawa State governor, His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi, has launched a five-year strategic development plan (2026–2031) for the state’s 27 local government councils. The plan is aimed at guiding the operations and financial expenditures of the councils to ensure sustainable growth.
Speaking after unveiling the plan at the Dutse Government House, Governor Namadi stated that the initiative to provide a unified working document for the local governments was born out of the desire to ensure synergy and a common approach in making Jigawa State great.
He noted that the document was prepared by consultants in collaboration with local government administrators, civil societies, traditional rulers, professional groups, and business organizations.
“Each local government has its own document that captures its peculiar needs, challenges, and resources, but its operations are aligned with the state government’s 12-point agenda,” the governor explained.
“As we launch this document, the state government, through the Ministry for Local Government, will remain vigilant in monitoring its implementation by the councils, and all necessary measures will be taken to safeguard it,” Governor Namadi declared.
In his address, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), who also serves as the Chairman of Dutse Local Government, Dr. Sibu Abdullahi, thanked the state governor for facilitating the production of the document and its launch, describing it as a landmark achievement in the history of local government councils in Jigawa State.
Dr. Sibu noted that the 27 local government councils are committed to ensuring full compliance with the operational guidelines and will collaborate with all necessary stakeholders to achieve the desired goals.
“This medium-term development plan for local governments is the first of its kind in the last three decades. It provides clear guidance and a framework for guiding our annual budgets, resource allocation, investments, and income generation to achieve realistic and measurable progress,” he said.
“InshaAllah, this document will be religiously implemented and monitored to ensure that the dream of His Excellency Governor Namadi—to make Jigawa State prosperous and great is actualized,” Dr. Sibu Abdullahi stated.
