The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to make the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election available online following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders over access to the document.
The commission said the register, which was physically displayed at registration areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, would also be accessible through its online platform.
INEC disclosed this in a press statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to the commission, the decision followed concerns expressed by Nigerians and stakeholders about the need to make the preliminary register accessible online in addition to the physical display already conducted.
The online register is available at https://display.inecnigeria.org.
INEC said the physical display was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, to enable registered voters to inspect their particulars and submit claims and objections as provided by law.
The commission explained that the online publication was an additional measure intended to complement the physical exercise and widen public access to the register.
It added that the process of addressing claims and objections arising from the exercise was ongoing ahead of the certification and publication of the final register of voters on December 15, 2026.
INEC said the measure was part of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.
The commission also appreciated the continued interest and constructive engagement of Nigerians and other stakeholders, reiterating its commitment to accountability and the faithful implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026, in conducting credible elections.
INEC’s latest decision provides an additional opportunity for voters who may have been unable to inspect the register during the nationwide physical display to access it online.
The final register is expected to be published on December 15, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general election.
