A Nigerian nurse has shared a video showing a skin reaction she says one of her colleagues developed after receiving lenacapavir, an HIV prevention injection, while stressing that the experience should not discourage others from using the medication.
According to the nurse, the affected colleague began experiencing the reaction shortly after taking the injection. She, however, emphasized that adverse reactions vary from person to person and do not mean everyone who receives the medication will experience similar side effects.
To support her point, the nurse revealed that both she and her roommate had also taken the injection without experiencing any complications.
She explained that, like many medications, lenacapavir can cause side effects or uncommon adverse reactions in some individuals, making proper medical supervision essential.
The nurse advised anyone who notices unusual symptoms after receiving the injection to promptly report them to the healthcare provider or facility where it was administered.
She also encouraged recipients to remain under the care of qualified health professionals who can monitor them for any unexpected reactions and provide appropriate treatment if needed.
Her video has sparked conversations online about medication safety and the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions, with many users praising her for reminding the public that individual responses to medicines can differ.
Health experts generally advise that while side effects are possible with many medications, people should not discontinue or avoid prescribed treatments based solely on another person’s experience. Instead, they recommend discussing any concerns with a qualified healthcare provider and seeking immediate medical attention if severe or unexpected symptoms occur.
The nurse’s message serves as a reminder that while new preventive medicines offer significant health benefits, they should always be administered and monitored under the guidance of a qualified medical professional.
