CSO Defends AIG Jimoh, Rejects Mohbad Claims, Seeks Justice In Ajiran Killings

A civil society organisation, the Coalition of Core Civil Rights Activists, has dismissed allegations linking former Lagos State Commissioner of Police and Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh to the investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Monday, the coalition’s spokesperson, Comrade Chief Declan Ihekaire, described the allegations as “cheap blackmail and lies” aimed at tarnishing the reputation of senior police officers and derailing justice in the Ajiran killings case.

Ihekaire said no amount of what he called a “campaign of calumny” would stop the coalition’s pursuit of justice in the Ajiran killings. He argued that the timeline of Commissioners of Police who served in Lagos between 2023 and 2026 clearly disproved claims that AIG Jimoh handled the Mohbad case.

According to him, CP Idowu Owohunwa was the Lagos State Commissioner of Police when Mohbad died on September 12, 2023.

Owohunwa was promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police in December 2023 and succeeded by CP Adegoke Fayoade, who later handed over to CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale on September 17, 2024. Jimoh, he said, only assumed office as Lagos Commissioner of Police on February 18, 2025, before being succeeded by CP Tijani Fatai in March 2026.

“It is therefore an evil unspeakable to mislead the public that AIG Olohundare Jimoh investigated the murder of Mohbad,” Ihekaire said.

The coalition maintained that the Nigeria Police Force operates established procedures for investigating and prosecuting crimes, insisting that attempts to implicate Jimoh were designed to undermine the institution and frustrate justice.

It further alleged that individuals facing prosecution over murder, land grabbing and other criminal offences had resorted to blackmail against the senior police officer to obstruct ongoing legal processes.

Ihekaire also accused unnamed actors of using social media to spread misinformation and attack public officials, stressing that the coalition would remain committed to ensuring justice in the Ajiran killings.

“We are not deterred in pursuing justice on Ajiran killings as no amount of campaign of calumny will halt the wheel of justice that is grinding slowly and steadily on the matter,” he said.

He added that the group would continue to challenge what it described as deliberate falsehoods against public officials, alleging that “corruption is fighting back” but insisting the coalition would continue to defend the truth in the interest of justice and national development.

The coalition urged the public to disregard claims that AIG Jimoh was Lagos Commissioner of Police when Mohbad died, insisting that the official police leadership timeline contradicted such allegations.

Also speaking, coalition member Comrade Rasaq Oladosu condemned what he described as efforts to ridicule Nigeria’s legal and security institutions through the alleged circulation of a forged police document declaring an Assistant Inspector-General of Police wanted.

He questioned why those allegedly responsible had not been arrested, arguing that using official police logos, insignia and communication formats to issue such a declaration amounted to forgery and a serious criminal offence.

Oladosu called on the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, urging the media to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserved rather than allowing it to be trivialised on social media.
