Kirikiri Customs Grow Revenue By 35% To N19.4bn

…Uncovers expired vape shipment

The acting Customs Area Controller of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command, deputy comptroller of Customs (DCC) Bolaji Lukman Adigun, has announced that the Command generated N19.4 billion in revenue in June 2026, representing a 35 per cent increase over the corresponding period in 2025, while also uncovering a container loaded with expired disposable vape products valued at N809.7 million.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Command on Thursday, Adigun said the Command remains committed to its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation and enforcement, noting that the briefing was an opportunity to present its performance and highlight a major enforcement success.

He disclosed that the Command realised N19.4 billion in June 2026, compared with N14.3 billion recorded in June 2025, reflecting an increase of N5.04 billion, or 35 per cent.

Adigun attributed the improved performance to the dedication of officers and men of the Command, stronger stakeholder compliance, enhanced trade facilitation and the deployment of intelligence-driven strategies.

According to him, “The Command generated a total revenue of N19.4 billion in the month of June 2026, as against the total sum of N14.3billion generated in the corresponding period of June 2025. This reflects an increase of N5.04billion, representing a 35% increase.”

On enforcement, the acting controller said the Command intercepted a 40-foot container, TIIU4739360, laden with expired disposable vape products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N809,698,761.

He stressed that while the Command is committed to facilitating legitimate trade and boosting revenue, it will not compromise on enforcing laws aimed at protecting the economy and public health.

He said, “While the Command remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade and maximising revenue generation, it is equally firm in its enforcement measures aimed at protecting the nation’s economy and safeguarding the wellbeing of Nigerians.”

Adigun explained that physical examination of the container revealed 18 pallets of disposable vape products, each containing 60 cartons, with cartons holding either 20 or 40 packs. Each pack contained 10 pieces, bringing the total to 484 cartons, equivalent to 182,340 pieces.

According to him, further examination showed the products carried expiry dates ranging from 2022 to 2026, making them unsafe for consumption and a potential threat to public health.

He said, “Further examination established that the products had different expiry dates of 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 respectively, rendering them unfit for use and posing a potential risk to public health.”

Adigun added that the Command has commenced the process of handing over the seized products to the appropriate government agency for regulatory action and proper disposal.

He noted that the seizure underscores the vigilance and professionalism of officers of the Command in preventing unsafe and non-compliant goods from entering the Nigerian market.

The acting controller urged importers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to comply strictly with import regulations and encouraged them to embrace the Nigeria Customs Service’s Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and Advance Ruling System to improve compliance, predictability and ease of doing business.

He assured stakeholders that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven operations, effective risk management and stringent cargo examination procedures to intercept expired, falsely declared,

Adigun also expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Customs management team for their leadership and strategic guidance.

He commended officers and men of the Command for their dedication and resilience, while thanking licensed customs agents, terminal operators, importers, partner government agencies and the media for their continued support and collaboration.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to consolidating its achievements in revenue generation, trade facilitation and enforcement while protecting the nation’s economy and safeguarding the wellbeing of Nigerians.
