Delta State police command has rescued three kidnapped victims and recovered guns from suspected hoodlums.
On Saturday, the police operatives attached to Orerokpe Division who were on patrol duty on Warri/Sapele Road by Okuvo and Egborede communities and sighted some persons being dragged into the bush.
The operatives suspected that the victims may have been kidnapped and trailed the suspected kidnappers into the bush.
When the hoodlums realised that the police were closing in on them, they opened fire on the team to which the police quickly responded.
When the hoodlums could not stand the firepower of the police, they abandoned the victims and escaped.
The victims (names withheld) who are aged 40 years, 54 years and 49 years respectively, were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families.
The police also said on 29th December, 2022, operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Warri were on stop- and-search duty at the front of Daudu police outpost, Kpesu community, Warri where they sighted a tricycle driving against traffic.
In an attempt to stop them, the suspects manoeuvered the tricycle and escaped, but in the process, a black handbag fell from the tricycle.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that his men recovered one locally-made gun from the suspected kidnappers.
He said when the bag was searched, one locally-made cut-to-size pistol was recovered, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
