Media personality Frank Edoho has revealed why the popular television quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire stopped airing after 13 years.

Speaking on The KK Show, Edoho debunked claims that he was removed as the programme’s host, describing such reports as false.

He explained that the show ended because its longtime sponsor pulled out after being fined by the federal government over a corporate issue.

According to Edoho, the company had supported the programme for about a decade but was forced to withdraw after the financial penalty made it impossible to continue funding the show.

“Our sponsor stayed with us for a decade. After the federal government fined them over a corporate matter, they told us they could no longer continue sponsoring the show,” Edoho said.

He, however, declined to identify the sponsor or disclose details of the fine.

When Who Wants To Be A Millionaire eventually returned with a different sponsor, Edoho was absent from the revamped programme. His absence sparked speculation that he had been dismissed, a claim he rejected.

“I felt I was thrown under the bus after all the years I put into the show,” he said.

Edoho anchored Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from 2004 until he stepped down in September 2017. Before becoming the face of the quiz show, he spent four years working with Radio Nigeria.

He noted that television gave him far greater public visibility than radio.

In 2022, Edoho returned as host when the programme made a comeback after a five-year hiatus with a new sponsor and an increased grand prize, putting to rest rumours that he had permanently parted ways with the show.
