Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to deploy 50 electric buses across the state to reduce transportation costs and improve mobility for residents.

The governor spoke about this in Ibadan during the presentation of the first and second quarter budget performance reports on revenue and expenditure, organised by the Oyo State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

Makinde, who was represented the secretary to the state government (SSG), Prof. Musibau Babatunde, said the 50 electric buses would be distributed to serve intra-city routes and ease inter-local government transport across Oyo State.

“This is an initiative aimed at bringing down the cost of transportation and making movement easier and cheaper for our people,” Akinde said.

He added that the buses were part of the broader efforts to deliver people-oriented projects that directly impact citizens.

The governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal sustainability and citizen-driven development.

He said his government was tracking both revenue and expenditure to ensure sectors in need of more support receive additional resources before the end of the fiscal year.

The 2026 budget framework is built around meeting revenue targets while managing a 77.5 per cent expenditure plan. We are now prioritising projects with high multiplier effects on the economy,” he stated.

Makinde added that projects nominated by citizens during town hall and stakeholder meetings across the state are already being executed.

The Governor urges residents to continue cooperating with the government to enable improved service delivery, adding that a high-level committee is already working to address pressing issues raised during the budget performance presentation.
