Lagos State deputy governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has stated that the state government would continue to invest in critical infrastructure that promotes commerce, enhances mobility and improves the quality of life for residents.

The deputy governor stated this at the unveiling of the New Face of International Market Electronics Association, held in Lagos, reaffirming the present administration’s commitment to the reconstruction of roads and drainage infrastructure in Alaba International Market, Ojo.

According to him, the roads will commence upon the completion of the ongoing drainage projects designed to address flooding and improve water flow within the market and explained that the administration is prioritising the completion of the drainage infrastructure to ensure the durability of the road network.

He said effective flood control remains critical to sustainable infrastructure development in the market.

“We must make sure that we move water. So, we do not do the road because of two things. If you notice, we’ve done all the drainage behind the market, and now it is almost 70 per cent done. So, we must complete the drainage, and the moment we finish it, then the road is coming. We must also expand the road because of the increasing population,” he said.

He assured the market leaders that the government would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to transform Alaba International Market and ensure that it remains a major hub of commerce in Lagos.

He added that the state government remains committed to improving the welfare of traders and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state.

In a goodwill message, Senator Uzor Orji Kalu commended the Lagos state government for its commitment to rehabilitating critical road infrastructure in Alaba International Market, emphasizing that good governance is built on truth, transparency, and the delivery of projects that directly improve the lives and businesses of Lagosians.

Kalu described Dr Kadri Hamzat, who is the APC governorship candidate, as a leader with a proven track record in infrastructure development and a deep understanding of the state’s needs.

He assured that the candidate will sustain engagement with communities across Lagos, including Alaba, to identify priority projects and accelerate socio-economic development.

Earlier, the president-general, Alaba International Market Electronics, Chief Camillus Amajuoyi, described the New Face of Alaba as a bold transformation aimed at repositioning the market as a cleaner, safer, digitally driven and globally competitive commercial hub which can be compared to the Dubai market.

He said the initiative represents a renewed vision for one of Africa’s largest electronics markets, noting that the transformation reflects the market’s commitment to integrity, discipline, innovation and global best practices while preserving Alaba’s legacy as a centre of entrepreneurship and economic opportunity.
