Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez converted pole position into a commanding lights-to-flag victory at the British MotoGP on Sunday, finishing 2.5 seconds clear of championship leader Jorge Martin in a rain-soaked thriller that saw eight riders fail to finish.
The 25-year-old Spaniard, who crashed out of Saturday’s sprint, rebounded with a flawless performance from Turn One, where pole-sitter Martin suffered technical gremlins and tumbled to fourth before clawing his way back to second.
Despite the setback, Martin’s runner-up finish—coupled with his sprint win—stretched his title advantage to 31 points over Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who claimed third and leapfrogged Ai Ogura in the standings after Ogura’s first DNF of the season.
Defending champion Marc Marquez settled for seventh, leaving him fourth overall, while a chaotic race claimed early casualties including Alex Rins and Joan Mir (first-lap collision), plus Enea Bastianini, Iker Lecuona, Cal Crutchlow, and Francesco Bagnaia.
The action came days after MotoGP confirmed Silverstone’s contract extension through 2028. The circus now heads to Spain for the Aragon Grand Prix on August 30.
