‎Ondo Police Nab 27-Year-Old For Alleged Defilement Of 15-Year-Old

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Solomon Onaola, over the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

‎The police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged by the girl’s guardian at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station on August 2.

‎According to the police, the girl, who worked as a domestic help in her guardian’s household, had on several occasions left home without permission, prompting her guardian to question her about where she usually went.

‎The Command said the girl allegedly disclosed that Onaola had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

‎Following the disclosure, police operatives commenced investigation and arrested the suspect. The case was later transferred to the Gender Based Offences Unit of the command for discreet investigation due to the sensitive nature of the allegation.

‎The police said the victim had been placed under appropriate care, while necessary steps were being taken in accordance with established procedures for alleged sexual offences involving minors.

‎Jimoh disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed the Gender Based Offences Unit to conduct a thorough and professional investigation to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served.

‎“The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from sexual exploitation, abuse and other forms of violence,” he said.

‎He urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse. Onaola remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
