Why We Are Expanding Suleja Hospital After 30 Years – Bello

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has given reasons why his government is upgrading the Suleja General Hospital after it was abandoned for 30 years.

The governor who inspected the ongoing work at the hospital reiterated his commitment to upgrade facilities in the health sector in the state.

He said the expansion  project at the hospital had become necessary as the facility had spent over 30 years without being attended to and the members of staff had been working under tight conditions.

He said; “This hospital has been long overdue for renovation, most of the facilities in Niger State have not seen any form of renovation for the past 30-40 years.

“The facility is being overstretched the doctors and the nurses are overwhelmed with patients, these necessitated the expansion to add more wards and consultant rooms.”

The governor said the hospital was being expanded from 100 to 250-bed spaces and the hospital would be provided modern equipment for efficient services.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, saying  the work had attained 50 percent completion level and  expected to be completed in the next three months for commissioning.

He maintained that emphasis was also  being accorded the Primary Health Care centers across the 274 wards as a deliberate policy to reduce pressure on the secondary health care facilities.

Some of the sections for expansion and remodelling are X-ray rooms, emergency and accident wards, amenity wards, doctors’ quarters, and surgical wards among others.
