Spain midfielder Rodri is set to wear the No.16 shirt at Barcelona following his proposed move from Manchester City.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Rodri had requested the number during discussions with Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez.
“Rodri has asked to wear number 16 at Barcelona during his conversations with Fermin Lopez over recent days,” Romano wrote on X.
“Fermin, set to switch to number 7 so Rodri will maintain his iconic 16.”
Rodri is expected to complete his move to Barcelona this week and sign a four-year contract that would keep him at the Catalan club until June 2030.
The Ballon d’Or winner was notably absent from Manchester City’s squad for their 3-0 Community Shield defeat by Arsenal on Sunday.
His move to Barcelona would bring an end to his spell at City, where he established himself as one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders.
