NIBSS Targets Digital Payments Challenges, Opportunities

The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Plc has moved to deepen industry conversations around the challenges, opportunities and emerging trends shaping Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital payments ecosystem.

The initiative is expected to provide a platform for regulators, financial institutions, fintech companies and other stakeholders to examine how technology, payment infrastructure and emerging innovations can support a more inclusive, secure and efficient financial system.

To advance this objective, NIBSS has introduced a new quarterly digital publication, NIBSS Digest, with its maiden edition themed “Redefining the Future of Payments.”

Speaking on the initiative, Head of Corporate Communications at NIBSS, Adewunmi Oshilaja, said the publication was designed to encourage wider conversations among stakeholders on the direction of the payments industry.

“NIBSS Digest was conceived to broaden the conversation around payments, shifting the focus from simply moving money to actively moving economies,” Oshilaja said.

He said the rapid evolution of payment ecosystems had made it necessary for regulators, financial institutions and technology companies to exchange ideas and insights on how to build more effective systems.

According to him, the maiden edition provides a forward-looking examination of how innovation and infrastructure can contribute to a more inclusive, secure and interconnected financial system.

Oshilaja also acknowledged the contributions of industry experts to the publication, saying their perspectives would help deepen understanding of the opportunities and challenges confronting the payments ecosystem.

The publication comes amid continued growth in digital financial services, with technology, regulation and infrastructure increasingly influencing how Nigerians and businesses make payments and access financial services.
