NPC Chairman, Aminu Yusuf, Dies At 66

Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf (Talban Wushishi), has died at the age of 66.

The commission announced his death in a statement yesterday, saying Yusuf passed away in Abuja after a brief illness.

According to the statement signed by the director, public affairs department of the commission, Mrs Adelayo Serifat Olurode, Yusuf was eighth substantive chairman of the commission and was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on December 3, 2025.

During his tenure, Yusuf championed a seven-point agenda aimed at repositioning the commission, with emphasis on strengthening its operations and improving the generation of reliable demographic data.

Before his appointment as NPC chairman, Yusuf served in various public positions, including Executive Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area, member-elect of the Niger State House of Assembly, Board Member of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the governor of Niger State.

The commission described him as a dedicated patriot, astute administrator and compassionate leader whose commitment to national development and reliable demographic data remained unwavering.
