Nigeria Customs continued their impressive run in the second phase of the NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League with another commanding victory in the Savannah Conference, while MFM maintained their dominance in the Atlantic Conference.
The Border Girls made it two wins from two games at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, after defeating Plateau Rocks 62-44 points on Sunday.
Customs had opened their second-phase campaign in emphatic fashion on Saturday, thrashing Nasarawa Amazons 100-30 points, and are now firmly on course for a place in the Final Eight in Lagos.
The Customs side are also chasing a second league title after lifting the championship in 2023, and their unbeaten start has strengthened their prospects of returning to the national finals.
Air Warriors also boosted their chances of qualifying from the Savannah Conference after recording their second victory in as many games. They defeated Titans 50-43 points on Sunday, having previously overcome ASO SKY Queens 58-54 in their opening game.
The result also provided some measure of revenge for Air Warriors, who had suffered defeat to ASO SKY Queens during the first phase.
ASO SKY Queens responded strongly later on Sunday, defeating Plateau Rocks 61-45 points to keep their hopes of reaching the Final Eight alive.
In the Atlantic Conference, two-time league champions MFM Women Basketball continued to set the pace at the Basketball Stadium in Port Harcourt, cruising past First Deep Water 76-24 points.
The victory extended MFM’s remarkable winning streak to nine games across the two phases of the competition.
The Olukoya Girls had enjoyed a perfect run during the first phase in Lagos and began the second phase on Saturday with a 20-0 walkover victory over IGP Queens.
MFM are now seeking to reclaim the title after losing it to Dolphins last year, but face a major test on Monday when they take on the defending champions.
With qualification for the Final Eight increasingly within reach, Monday’s encounter promises to be one of the key fixtures in the Atlantic Conference as MFM look to strengthen their position and move closer to a place in the Lagos finals.
Games in both conferences continue on Monday as teams battle for the coveted Final Eight places.
