Musa’s Allegation Against El-Rufai: Nigeria Must Move Beyond Division – Group

A group under the auspices of CG Musa for PBAT Support Group has said Nigeria must move beyond division following the recent allegation of mass killing in Southern Kaduna against former Kaduna state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd).

In a statement issued by the group’s director general, Zakariyah Yakub, while supporting the Minister of Defence’s position against El-Rufai urged Nigerians to choose unity, peace and national interest against discord, bitterness.

The group said Musa spoke during his recent interview on Channels Television from the perspective of a soldier who has dedicated decades of his life to the service of Nigeria and witnessed first-hand, the devastating consequences of insecurity, communal conflict and social division.

The group however called on Nigerians, particularly political leaders and public commentators to approach the ongoing discourse with restraint and responsibility.

According to the statement, “As a support group committed to the ideals, leadership and public service of General Christopher Musa, (Rtd) we believe his intervention should be understood within the context in which it was made particularly the urgent need to confront the challenges that have divided communities, threatened national security and weakened social cohesion

“His concerns about Kaduna State and the broader question of national cohesion should, therefore, not be misconstrued as a personal vendetta against any individual.

The group added, “Nigeria can not afford the continued exploitation of divisions that have the potential to undermine peaceful coexistence and national development. At a time when the country requires greater unity and cooperation, political and public discourse must contribute to healing rather than deepen existing fault lines.

“We acknowledge that individuals who feel aggrieved by statements made during the interview have every right to express their disagreement and, where appropriate, seek legal remedies. However, we urge all parties to allow facts, evidence, and due process to guide the resolution of any dispute arising from the interview,” the group said.
