Doma United continued their remarkable start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season with a 2-0 victory over nine-time champions Enyimba at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Saturday.
The newly promoted side maintained their perfect record with a third consecutive victory, establishing themselves as the early pace-setters after another impressive performance against one of the most decorated clubs in Nigerian football.
Doma United had already announced their arrival in the top flight with a 2-0 home victory over fellow newcomers Sporting Lagos on the opening day before following it up with a hard-fought 1-0 away win against Inter Lagos.
Their latest triumph over Enyimba means they have now taken maximum points from all three matches played, scoring five goals without conceding in the process.
The result also underlines Doma United’s impressive start to life back in the NPFL after the club were promoted to the top flight.
Enyimba, meanwhile, suffered another setback after beginning their campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Niger Tornadoes. Their Matchday 2 fixture against Shooting Stars was postponed because of the Aba club’s continental commitments, leaving them still searching for their first league victory of the season.Â
Doma United went into the encounter as the early surprise leaders after winning their opening two matches, while Enyimba arrived in Gombe under pressure to respond following their disappointing opening-day defeat.
The NPFL had described the fixture as one of the standout matches of Matchday Three, particularly because of Doma United’s impressive beginning and Enyimba’s pedigree as nine-time champions.Â
The hosts made their superiority count in the 32nd minute when S. Rilwanu broke the deadlock to put Doma United 1-0 ahead.
Enyimba attempted to respond before the interval, but Doma United held on to take their advantage into half-time.
The visitors needed a response after the break, but it was Doma United who continued to look dangerous.
The hosts eventually doubled their advantage in the 76th minute, putting the result beyond Enyimba’s reach and sending the home supporters into celebration.
Enyimba were unable to find a way back into the contest during the closing stages as Doma United protected their two-goal advantage to secure another statement victory.
The result is particularly significant given Enyimba’s status as one of Nigeria’s most successful clubs. Doma United had already demonstrated against Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos that their strong start was not a fluke, but defeating Enyimba provides another indication that the newcomers could be serious contenders in the early stages of the campaign.
