Asaba Airport ‘Terror Attack’ Fake – Police Clarify

The Police have dismissed reports of a terrorist attack at the Asaba International Airport, Delta State, describing the incident that triggered the reports as a planned security simulation exercise conducted by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

In a statement by the Airport Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said the exercise, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, was designed to test and strengthen the preparedness, response capabilities and inter-agency coordination of security and emergency-response agencies.

The Command, said there was neither a terrorist attack nor security breach at the airport.

It explained that the exercise involved the deployment of security personnel and other relevant stakeholders to recreate a simulated security incident within the airport environment.

According to the Command, the exercise was intended to test existing response mechanisms, communication channels, command and control structures, as well as the ability of participating agencies to respond effectively to potential security emergencies.

“The Airport Police Command wishes to clarify that there was no terrorist attack or security breach at the Asaba International Airport, contrary to reports and narratives currently circulating on social media and other platforms,” the statement said.

The Command stressed that the operation was a “controlled and authorised activity” and should not be misconstrued as an actual terrorist attack or invasion of the airport.

It urged members of the public, particularly travellers and airport users, to disregard the reports and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of creating fear and panic.

The police assured that the security situation at the airport remained under control, adding that relevant security agencies were maintaining vigilance to protect passengers, airport personnel, facilities and other stakeholders.

The Command also urged the public to rely on verified information from authorised government and security agencies, saying the security simulation was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security preparedness and protect critical airport infrastructure.
