Northern Youths Back Tinubu’s 2027 Bid, Warn Against Divisive Politics

A group, Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL), has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

It advised northern politicians against “divisive politics” ahead of next year’s general elections.
AYAGL said its position followed consultations with traditional leaders, political analysts, youth coalitions, agrarian unions and civil society actors across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement signed by its president, Alhaji Danbature Abdul, the group said the Tinubu administration had demonstrated commitment to the north through its appointments and policies, adding that region’s youths would support continuity.

On security, the group commended the minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, for improving coordination among the armed forces and intensified military operations against terrorists, bandits and insurgents.

It also cited the review of salaries, allowances and hazard benefits for members of the armed forces, saying the measures had improved the morale of troops serving in challenging security theatres.

AYAGL also commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his role in coordinating the country’s intelligence and internal security architecture.

The group said Ribadu had strengthened intelligence sharing and coordination in efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, oil theft, and other forms of criminality.

It further praised reforms in military pension administration, saying that the adoption of technology and stronger financial controls had improved the administration and payment of pensions to retired military personnel.

The group, however, warned Northern politicians against what it described as sectional and divisive political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

It urged politicians contemplating alternative presidential ambitions to reconsider their positions and align with what it described as the region’s emerging stance.

“Northern youths will not lend their strength to political speculation or fragmentation,” AYAGL said.

The organisation maintained that the North would support Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that the administration should be assessed based on its policies and institutional performance rather than political rhetoric.
