Kano Residents Reacts To Anti-corruption Boss’ Resignation

Some residents of Kano State have reacted to the reported resignation of the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Saidu Yahaya.

They called for renewed commitment to transparency, accountability and the fight against corruption.

Yahaya reportedly submitted his resignation yesterday following criticism of the commission’s performance.

The development came after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf publicly challenged the anti-corruption agency to intensify its activities.

A public relations activist, Mahmud Kaura Hassan, said the development should provide an opportunity to strengthen the state’s anti-corruption institutions.

Hon. Mahmud Said Gwangwan of Rogo local government area said the people expect the anti-corruption agency to be committed to investigating complaints and ensuring transparency in the management of public resources.

He urged whoever assumes leadership of the commission to prioritise the interests of the people and maintain professionalism in the discharge of the agency’s responsibilities.

Similarly, the Secretary of the Nigerian Newspaper Distributors in Kano State said the circumstances surrounding the resignation should be clearly communicated to the public.

He said transparency was important to maintaining public confidence in the state’s anti-corruption efforts, while calling for a smooth transition and continuity in the commission’s activities.

Also reacting, Alhaji Hamisu Uba, Sarkin Kasuwar Dawanau, said ordinary citizens and traders needed an anti-corruption institution that was accessible and responsive to their complaints.

He urged the incoming leadership to pay greater attention to issues affecting people at the grassroots and ensure that complaints were handled fairly and transparently.

Yahaya was appointed Chairman of the PCACC in August 2025 following the expiration of his predecessor, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado’s tenure.

The Kano State House of Assembly subsequently approved him for a five-year tenure.

Following the reported resignation, Barrister Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, who previously served as the commission’s Secretary, was appointed acting chairperson.
