Gunmen have reportedly killed a security operative on his way to his duty post along the Kwi-Beco road in Plateau State.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident occurred at about 7pm on Thursday around Kwi, between Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of the state.
The operative was reportedly riding a motorcycle to his duty post in the Chit area of Heipang when he was attacked and killed.
A reliable source said the assailants also made away with the motorcycle after the attack.
The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident, describing it as disturbing.
Tengwong said the killing raised serious concerns about the safety of residents in the affected communities.
He said it was particularly troubling that security personnel deployed to protect residents were themselves vulnerable to attacks.
The BYM spokesman condemned the killing and called for urgent measures to address the security challenges confronting communities in the area.
The Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
