The Taraba State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha, has promised to establish agro-processing zones and to improve the livelihood of farmers across the three senatorial zones, if elected governor in 2027.
The governorship hopeful also pledged to strengthen rural infrastructure to boost agricultural production, create job opportunities and improve farmers’ incomes.
Sen. Bwacha, made the pledge during the flag-off of the PDP’s 2027 governorship campaign in the state, in Zing Local government area.
The PDP candidate identified infrastructure, public expenditure, borrowing, social services and the relationship between government and communities, as critical areas requiring urgent attention in Taraba State.
He said, his administration would immediately prioritise agriculture, rural security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment and human capital development, if elected 2027.
Sen. Bwacha, also promised to improve roads connecting farming communities to markets, particularly in Lau, Karim Lamido and Sardauna local governments, to facilitate the movement of farm produce and reduce post-harvest losses
He added that, his administration would invest in storage, processing, packaging, transportation and export facilities to enable farmers to derive greater value from their produce.
“We will develop agro-processing zones and value chains that will enable local farmers to participate more fully in the modern agricultural economy,” he said.
The governorship candidate also pledged to prioritise youth and women’s development, strengthen the health and education sectors, improve infrastructure and expand economic opportunities across the state.
On governance, Bwacha observed that public office should be regarded as a responsibility to improve the welfare of citizens, rather than merely an avenue for exercising political power.
He stressed that, government policies must address the needs of rural farmers, civil servants, pensioners, unemployed graduates, mothers seeking functional healthcare facilities and children requiring quality education.
According to him, Taraba needs a government that connects with communities, strengthens public institutions and translates the state’s resources into tangible improvements in the living conditions of its people.
Sen. Bwacha, also urged his supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the campaign, stressing that political competition should be based on ideas rather than violence or intimidation.
“Politics is a contest of ideas, not war. We must demonstrate proper conduct in our campaigns and public engagements, even when disagreements become intense. We must reject violence, intimidation, disorder and personal attacks,” he said.
Earlier, the PDP National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged the people of Taraba State to support Bwacha’s governorship ambition.
He expressed confidence that the party could build a state that reflects the aspirations of its citizens.
