The Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has decried the poor attitude to duty exhibited by some teachers in public schools across the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, expressed the concern on Wednesday during an ongoing inspection tour of schools.
Tambuwal, represented by the Board Secretary, Alhaji Mamuda Ahmad Wamakko, said the exercise was to ensure teachers discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity and accountability.
During the tour, the team visited Yakubu Muazu Basic Science Model School at about 8:30am, where they met the headteacher and 35 out of the 47 teachers posted to the school.
The headteacher disclosed that the school has an enrolment of 3,293 pupils and 47 teachers.
He also reported that two teachers posted to the school had failed to report for duty since their deployment, while highlighting the need for additional teachers, desks and chairs.
Reacting, Wamakko condemned the unprofessional conduct of teachers who neglect their duties.
He urged teachers to show greater commitment, discipline and fear of Allah in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing the need to safeguard the future of pupils through effective teaching and learning.
