Ebonyi State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rt. Hon Francis Nwifuru yesterday expressed the regret over the high level of mortality rate at the Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki and attributed it to dearth of equipment in the hospital.

Nwifuru made the disclosure in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital during a town hall meeting organized by Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas Initiative of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki for all the governorship candidates in the state.

The APC candidate also frowned at the lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude of some of the staff of the hospital adding that at all times people die out of carelessness in the federal University Teaching Hospital.

He said, “Today when you look at the Federal Teaching Hospital in our state, I call it at all times a mortuary center because anytime you go there, you must see alot of people who die there and those who couldn’t make it.

“There are people who are so lackadaisical and at all times abandon their duty. The problem we also have there is the lack of equipment and we will find a solution to the problem.”

He assured the people of building another state teaching hospital in the state to meet the health needs of the people if elected the governor of the state in the forthcoming governorship election.

Also, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance  (APGA), Professor Bernard Odoh accused the state government of being  very hostile to investment.

Odoh said there were too many taxes in the state which have discouraged businesses.

Odoh, a former secretary to the state government, who also spoke during the interractive session lamented that the state was currently ranked 26/36 in the federation on the ease of doing business.
