Following the recent outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Abuja, the Zamfara State Government has commenced mandatory health screening for all travellers coming into the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists at the Gusau International Airport.
Maradun said the proactive measure became imperative to prevent importation of the virus into the state and to ensure early detection of suspected cases.
According to her, all passengers arriving by air and road will undergo temperature checks and health assessments at designated entry points.
She added that the Ministry of Health has deployed trained health personnel to Gusau Airport, major interstate motor parks and other transport hubs across the state for immediate evaluation of travellers.
She urged residents and travellers to cooperate with medical teams, noting that the exercise may cause brief delays at entry points but was necessary to safeguard public health.
