Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied endorsing the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Ishaku Abbo, describing a social media report claiming otherwise as “fake.”
Wike, through his senior special assistant on public communications and social media, Lere Olayinka, said he had no relationship with the LP or any of its candidates in Adamawa State.
A post circulating on social media had attributed to the minister a statement urging Adamawa voters to make “informed and thoughtful” choices at the polls, while purportedly declaring Abbo the best candidate to govern the state.
Wike disowned the statement, saying he neither made the comment nor endorsed Abbo or any other LP candidate in the state.
He urged the people of Adamawa to disregard the report, describing it as a deliberate falsehood.
The minister stressed that whenever he decides to support a candidate, he would make his position known personally and publicly.
“Whoever I am supporting, I will use my own mouth to say it,” Wike said.
The denial came amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and candidates increasingly seeking endorsements from influential political figures.
